Why You Should Consider River Cruising For Your Next Trip

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

River cruising is one of our favourite ways to travel. If you've never had a chance to experience travelling this way, here's why we love it and why you should consider a river cruise for your next trip.

  • It's like a boutique hotel. You can settle in, unpack and everything moves with you throughout your trip.

  • You'll get a local's perspective. As the ship sails, you can expect to hear a program director talk about the area you're in and give you a bit more context on the history or what the area is famous for. You'll enjoy sitting back, relaxing with a glass of wine and taking in the scenery from inside the ship or onboard the sundeck.

  • River cruises are perfectly sized for interesting places. They are a bit more narrow and smaller than ocean cruise ships which gives them access to smaller ports, locks and interesting bridges.

  • You'll visit off the beaten path destinations. You will dock at and visit small towns and cities that you may have never heard of or considered visiting.

  • There are less people onboard. River cruises are much smaller so you can expect cruises with about 100-200 passengers. With a crew of around 50, you'll receive incredible service for all your meals and anything else you might need.

  • Many excursions are included. You'll receive a menu-like list and get to pick which excursions interest you the most. From cooking, to having coffee with locals, to visiting tourist attractions, guided tours and more, you'll be able to customize your trip according to your interests. And, the best part is, you just have to show up and the crew will take care of all the details.

  • Expect onboard entertainment. Locals will come onboard and give you a taste of their delicacies, perform cultural dances, mini-concerts, art classes, wine tastings and more.

  • You'll always get an outside cabin. The staterooms are nice-sized, usually with an incredible amount of storage, and all have a window or balcony.

  • The food is incredible. You'll enjoy buffets, fine dining, wine service, à la carte options, fresh food and something for every diet. The service that goes along with meals is also top notch.

  • It's easy to stay in shape. If you enjoy working out, you'll enjoy the onboard gym, onboard exercise classes and active excursions. You'll also find a variety of healthy food options.
